POZEN Receives New Patent for MT 300

CHAPEL HILL, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 7, 2003--POZEN Inc. (Nasdaq: POZN), a pharmaceutical development company with a portfolio of product candidates for the treatment of migraine, announced today that it has received patent number 6,495,535 from the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

The new patent provides protection for MT 300 through claims relating to therapeutic packages containing a high potency formulation of dihydroergotamine (DHE) in a pre-filled syringe. This is POZEN's first issued patent covering MT 300. The company has MT 300 patent applications pending worldwide.

POZEN now owns five patents in the U.S. and two patents in Australia for its portfolio of product candidates for the treatment of migraine.

POZEN announced on December 17, 2002, that it has submitted a New Drug Application (NDA) to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for marketing approval of MT 300. The product candidate is designed to provide long-lasting pain relief for patients needing a convenient injectable therapy for severe migraine.
