POZEN Names William L. Hodges CFO and Senior Vice President, Finance & Administration

CHAPEL HILL, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 3, 2004--POZEN Inc. (NASDAQ: POZN), a pharmaceutical company developing therapeutic advancements in a cost effective manner, announced today that William L. Hodges, CPA, has been named CFO and Senior Vice President, Finance and Administration. He will report to John R. Plachetka, Pharm.D., chairman, president and chief executive officer and will be a member of the executive committee.

"Bill has 16 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry in different financial roles. With his depth of experience, broad knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry and great management skill, Bill will be a real asset to POZEN's management team and a key contributor to POZEN's future success," said Dr. John R. Plachetka.

Mr. Hodges began his career in the pharmaceutical industry with Burroughs Wellcome Co. in 1985. In 1991, he moved to London and worked in Group Finance for the Wellcome Foundation, Ltd. Within Group Finance Mr. Hodges worked on mergers and acquisitions and was Regional Controller for Northern Europe and Japan. In 1993, he returned to Burroughs Wellcome in North Carolina as Director of Procurement. Mr. Hodges was Vice President, Corporate Planning and Business Support at GlaxoWellcome before being appointed acting Senior Vice President and CFO for the fifteen months leading up to the GlaxoSmithKline merger which was completed in December of 2000. Most recently Mr. Hodges was Senior Vice President and CFO of Pergo, Inc. in Raleigh, N.C.

Mr. Hodges received his B.S. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is a Certified Public Accountant.
